Sumantha Sen Therapy

Individual therapy

Grief, life change, cancer, and caregiving

Loss and illness can change familiar roles, relationships, and expectations. Caring for another person can also leave little space to notice what you are carrying yourself.

Dr. Sen offers therapy for adults navigating grief, major life changes, cancer, chronic illness, and caregiver strain. The focus is on your emotional experience, including feelings that may be difficult to share with the people closest to you.

Loss does not follow a simple schedule

Grief rarely moves in order. It may arrive months later, in the middle of an ordinary day, or alongside relief and guilt.

Therapy makes room for grief as it is, including losses others may not recognize: a diagnosis, a role, a future you had planned on.

The emotional demands of illness

You may be balancing uncertainty with practical decisions, or managing other people's reactions while trying to understand your own.

Therapy can provide a place to speak about fear, anger, exhaustion, sadness, or changes in identity without needing to present a particular version of coping.

When you are the one providing care

Caring for a partner, parent, or child can be an act of love and a source of strain at once. It is possible to grieve someone who is still here.

Your own wellbeing matters in its own right.

Questions people often ask

How is this different from medical care during illness or caregiving?

Therapy here is not medical treatment and does not replace your medical team. It focuses on the emotional side: fear, exhaustion, anger, grief, changes in how you see yourself, and the strain of caring for someone. It sits alongside oncology, primary care or other treatment, for patients and for the people caring for them.

Can a caregiver seek support for themselves?

Yes. Caregiver strain and the effect of caring on your own wellbeing are part of this practice's focus.
